Fine Art: Story Telling

 Teaching Storytelling in the Classroom

Storytelling describes the social and cultural activity of sharing stories, sometimes with improvisation, theatrics, or embellishment. Every culture has its own stories or narratives, which are shared as a means of entertainment, education, cultural preservation or instilling moral values.

Students were grouped in teams in order to learn about the elements of a story. Then they created a story  based on a photo of an art piece. One group led by Robert B., actually performed the story.

A Day at the Racetrack

It was the day of the Kentucky Derby.

Jockey Johnny and Speedy Spencer had been preparing for months.

Jockey Johnny had been training his horse every day for ten hours straight with no breaks.

Speedy Spencer trained his horse a couple hours a day. They spent most of their time walking through the plains.

The town comes together once a year for this big race.

Everyone was certain that Jockey Johnny would win.

Jockey Johnny said to the crowd, “I’m the fastest in the land.”

Meanwhile Speedy Spencer was in the stables, brushing his horse’s mane and encouraging his horse to do his best and have fun!

The time had come.

All of the jockeys lined up their horses in the gates.

Jockey Johnny says to his horse, “You better win… or else.”
