Acting: Recording Sketches


 Sketch comedy comprises a series of short scenes or vignettes, called "sketches", commonly between one and ten minutes long. Such sketches are performed by a group of comic actors or comedians, either on stage or through an audio or visual medium such as radio and television.

Using this concept as a reference, the class created groups, and each group was responsible for developing a sketch by writing the script, acting it, recording it. The class used their i phones to make the recordings, stressing the importance of using such device for learning and class activities. The following 4 clips belong to  groups members:Melissa Marion, Olivia Steinberg, Lauren Fuster, Julia Kaplan




The team explains that the acting sketches were created for seniors in high school. Its goal is to build creative characterization based on past experiences. The acting sketches fall under improvisation.

Objective: literature/playwright skills - identifies the elements of plot, summarizes the plot of play, proposes alternate resolutions to problem

Activity: having a script, then going outside, choosing a sight and using it to create the background and location of 

Age group: middle school (6th grade)

Assessment: the students can evaluate, through discussion or in writing, plot structure in dramatic literature. Students can also identify the plot, climax and resolution. Student can respond to and analyze a theatre performance by writing a critique

Materials: phone/video camera and anything for props
